He is the epitome of goodness. He is “Beach Santa,” doing much of his good deeds at the Isle of Palms (IOP), near Charleston, SC. His focus is environmental clean-up. Not only does he spend his days (other than the time that he spends on his Christmas and other holiday chores) cleaning up the beach, but he also collects data – types of debris left at the beach. He understands that you need to know what you are dealing with, in order to properly address the solution. A perfect example was his “analysis” that a whole lot of cigarette butts were being dropped on the beach. Cigarette butts are particularly toxic. This lead to the IOP City Council passing an ordinance outlawing smoking at the beach!
He has been doing this since the summer of 2018, and, by the way, he does not get paid. He carries a naughty bucket (“NB”) and has a naughty list (those who pollute), but also has a nice list – those who are responsible and do not leave debris, of course. Thank you, Beach Santa.
